Shibori is a Japanese term for several methods of resist-dyeing cloth to make a pattern by binding, folding, twisting and compressing, from the verb root shiboru meaning to wring, squeeze, press.
Tie-dye is the popular name for shibori in the Western world. However, this term does not fully describe the great diversity of techniques which have been developed or the degree of skill and knowledge required to execute them.
In this seminar we will spend one day dying fabric in Shibori techniques. The second day will involve some simple sewing projects to take the fabric dyed the previous day and turn it into something wonderful.
