Eight 'N' Eight Kumihimo
Materials fee: $15/student. The kit includes the braiding disk, a braiding weight and the cotton yarns.
While many people associate 16-strand ‘Kongoh Gumi’ (round) braids with a four-colour spiral, it is possible to create simple geometric patterns with just two colours. A perfect combination is eight light threads and eight dark threads. Students will start with coloured pencils in the same two shades as their yarns and learn how to fill in a Diamond Grid – each space is identified with a number/letter code – that represents the round braid. The designs will be worked in cotton yarns on a foam braiding disk. They’re the braider’s equivalent of Colour-and-Weave patterns!
This class is suitable for new braiders as well as ones with some experience.
Please bring thread scissors, a tape measure, pencil and eraser and coloured pencils to class.
